Mosor is a mountain range located near the town of Split on the Adriatic coast. It stretches from the pass of Klis in the northwest to the Cetina River in the southeast. The highest peak is Veliki Kabal (1339m), and one of the most visited peaks is Vickov stup (1325 m). At the top Sveti Jure (1319 m) is a Roman Catholic chapel of the same name. There are no inhabited areas on the mountain above 600 meters. At the foothill there is Mediterranean evergreen vegetation. Up to 1000 meters is the zone of pubescent oak, black ash and such. The zone of oriental hornbeam is the highest as it reaches the top of Mosor, and it contains white ash, yew, sycamore maple, cotoneaster and mountain elm. The air of the barren land is filled with smells of sage, oregano, wormwood and winter savory.
The animal world is various. Some unexpected discoveries were found on Mosor, like olm (Proteus anguinus),which was found in 1979 in pit called Đuderina jama, and also an endemic Mosor lizard (Lacerta mosorensis) which lives in higher area. Wild animals that live on Mosor are hare, badger, skunk, fox, weasel and marten, occasionally you can see wolf, boar, mouflon and leap. There are also lot of birds such as rock partridge, pheasant, raven, hawk, haggard, short-toed eagle and other.

DAY01 We start our ascent from villages near Split: Kučine, Žrnovnica or Sitno gornje – depending on your physical fitness. Leaving Split behind we go towards the Mosor tops through the thick pine and pubescent oak forest. You can see the remains of old pastoral villages all around, as well as the pools for watering livestock, and occasionally the wind brings along the sounds of bells from a distant bulls herd.
By the sunset we reach deep into the mountain side where we prepare dinner in one of the mountain houses and take a rest for tomorrow's climb to the top. We enjoy the panoramic view of Split by night.

DAY02 We reach one of the highest peaks within the two hours walk where we enjoy the wonderful view of Split and all the nearby islands, and on the north side we can see Sinj and mountain Kamešnica. On our way down we visit some pits and caves. After refilling water supplies from the spring we go towards the mountain retreat. We spend the rest of the day gathering herbs, preparing tea, collecting wood, preparing dinner and other activities.

DAY03 In the morning we continue our way along the Mosor ridge towards the top Sveti Jure. There is a Roman Catholic chapel of the same name at the 1320 meters above the sea level. There we take the one hour break and enjoy the view, the sun, quick snack and tea. We go down the steep path towards the old abandoned village above Gata. This is where Mosor sets down into a long valley at 700 meters above the sea level that slopes towards Split.

Optionally we offer descending by bikes to Split (20 km) or to Omiš (6km) where we have a dinner in a restaurant. Half way from Gata there is a statue of Mila Gojsalić done by a great croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović. The legend of Mila Gojsalić tells a story of seduction of Ahmet Pasha and the defeat of Ottomans nearby the village of Gata. We also offer a possibility to visit the observatory on Mosor.
