Hiking is an outdoor activity which consists of cross-country walking of a longer duration than a simple walk and usually over terrain where hiking boots are required. The health benefits of different types of hiking have been confirmed in many studies. A hike that can be completed in a single day, often applied to mountain hikes to a lake or summit, but not requiring an overnight camp.
What is a trek anyway? The trek is simply a walking route. This "roads" are of course just paths, usually carrying people and donkeys. So- there are no motor vehicles in the trek, that's why you won't hear a single motor noise even if you try hard, there is no pollution, and the air is so clean you actually wonder if it really exists. You'll see old men working in their fields, learn about amazing irrigating technics.
That's why the trek takes you to amazing landscapes, but still don't leave you for days with no place to eat and sleep. You will always find houses on the way, where we sleep and cook domestic food after a hard day.
The trek can take 2-3 days or a week, it all depends on your mood, strength and will. You set the pace - you can walk 15 kilometers a day or just four kilometers a day, and spend the night in the mountain houses you reach on the way.. .
Which trek should I choose? We offers many paths of different length and weight where you can track. The decision which trek to do depends on:
- The time you want to spend - there are short treks of 2-3 days. long treks that can take a week or two if you want.
- Physical strength - if climbing to the fourth floor by stairs makes your heart close to explosion, don't take a hard trek. Choose a trek that doesn't take you through too many steap slopes, take a shorter trek, and - take it easy! don't rush to finish it as fast as you can. And - you'll also have more time to enjoy it.
Trekking in Croatian mountains has become on of the most popular outdoor activities. The mountains of the Republic of Croatia mainly belong to the Dinaric range. Although the mountains are not very high, there is no peak above 2000 m, they are very interesting.
The Dinaric range is known in the world as a classic region of deep karsts. Climbing in the karsts has a lot in common with being in the high mountains. The sharp karsts shapes, the domination of bare karsts, the lack of water, poverty of vegetation, harsh climate and sparse population require the same efforts from the climber as many much higher mountains. But there are also differences among the Dinaric mountains. Those in the north are lower and milder (in Gorski kotar, for example) and those in the south are higher and more deserted (the Dalmatian mountains).
