Vis island
Due to its half century isolation, since it used to be ‘‘Army Island'' in the Yugoslavia, the island is not crowded with tourist apartments and hotels and is usually the chosen destination for those tourist who appreciate its authenticity. If you are one of those tourists, you'll surely fall in love with the island the moment you step out of the ferry into beautiful old paths filled with rosemary, strawberry tree or cane apple into the old carob shade.
The island is full of little paths and roads and is easily crossable from one point to the other during intensive 3 to 4 hour walk. Whether you decide to take a swim into clear blue sea during the day or dive into the sunset at one of island's numerous bays you will experience unique sensation.
The reputation of the sunniest island on the Adriatic coast makes Vis a great destination all through the year. There are no poison snakes or spiders on the island which is full of beautiful vegetation and animal species.
The island Vis was the oldest Greek colony in this part of the Adriatic. The island was inhabited by the Greeks from Syracuse in the 390. B. C. The most famous archaeological artefact from that period is bronze head of Artemis which was found in the town Vis (known as Issa during the Greek times).
The highest point of the island is place called Hum (578 m) where little church of the Holly Spirit (Crkva Svetog Duha) is situated. From there a beautiful view strikes upon the town Komiža and nearby island Biševo. If you desire more laid back hiking we offer baggage transport on the donkey that will surely get under your skin immediately.
The night fishing from the shore is organized for several day hikes as well as visit to the island Biševo and Blue Grotto (Modra špilja).
For real adventurous we offer tours of the desolated military object and labyrinth tunnels which are part of the underground military base spread for miles under the island.
The island is a great choice for one day hiking and trekking tours. If you decide upon several day hikes we can arrange staying in the isolated cottages near the sea or in the mountains.
At last but not the least, no tours will pass without tasting traditional gastro product such as Viška or Komiška pogača (traditional scone filled with tomatoes and anchovies), unique wine Vugava and delicious marine dishes.
See you there!
